Almost every state requires businesses to purchase workers compensation insurance. Each state has different laws governing the amount of lost income benefits awarded, the duration of time these benefits can be received, and the provision of medical care and rehabilitation services. Each state differs in the administration of and regulations pertaining to workers compensation benefits as well. There are different procedures for resolving disputes over benefits and different rules regarding whether it is the employee or the employer who chooses the health care providers in the event of a workers compensation claim.
